The better the referances the better of a piece you can make no matter the skill.
But this does blow my mind. You have truely captured the subtle emotions and important details and how expressive the whole piece turned out to be. I have to say you have really inspired me.
Thanks so much! Working from photo-reference as I do,..I really strive to try to make each piece "my own" some of my earlier (or hasty) works sometimes unfortunately show just how "photo-ie" the working references are... But my intention is to go back and truly paint them entirely, so that any "roughness" in them goes away..
i really admire this piece. it does look realistic. the subject - the instinct nature of a starving dog enhances, from the nice lighting and detailed coloring, and the facial expression enhances the realism. i love the eyes, and his mouth - pain is really expressed well. i like how the subject can be viewed as seperate entities - not just a blend of two species, but can be seen as a simple dog and a simple human.
Thank you! Yeah,..subtle emotion is not easy to capture,..especially when you are trying to keep realism going with animal faces. But boy,..sad-eyed dogs sure do make it easier!
Thanks so much! He was a fun one to do, and I was able to work from some excellent photo reference shot by a friend of mine who lives in Thailand. Other elements of the image came from photographic stock I have collected or taken myself over the years,..and has been incredibly useful in putting together the reference pieces I generate to paint from digitally...
It really is a fun and enjoyable process I've been getting into recently..
